Album Review – Everything In Gold -Modern Chemistry

Modern Chemistry is a band that has been on Halfbeat’s radar for some time now. The rock trio hailing from New Brunswick has been perfecting their sound over the past couple of years to bring us a powerful and emotional debut full-length album, Everything In Gold. The album takes the band’s sound in a new direction as their three previously self-released EP’s contain more of a refined sound that seamlessly builds up to this release.

The album kicks off with the title track, “Everything In Gold,” which ‘captures a new feeling’ for the band according to lead vocalist, Joe Zorzi. With guitars fading in from silence, the track builds into a driving force that sets the mood for the rest of the album. Another track off the album, titled “St. Rain,” is my personal favorite. With its light verses and heavy hitting chorus, this song is the perfect combination of being able to scream your heart out, but also sit back and understand everything you’re feeling all at the same time. It is a song that you feel comfort in listening to and allows you to forget about whatever is bringing you down and let it go. Zorzi states, “‘St. Rain’ is a type of song I’ve been wanting to write for a long time. It’s got some really lively verses and a classic half time chorus. There’s a lot more of a noticeable influence from Kings of Leon and other great bands that might not be as apparent in some of our older material.”

From start to finish, Everything In Gold takes you on a roller coaster of emotions that is bound to make you scream all the words at the top of your lungs. Zorzi shares, “This record’s all about taking a step back to look at all of your past mistakes, all of your regrets, and all of your accomplishments. Realizing that no matter what you’re dealing with, there’s a way to become better from it.” This is the perfect summer album for blasting from your car, driving at night with the windows down.

Everything In Gold, is out now and available at the links below. If you like what you hear, you can catch the boys on tour this summer with Taking Back Sunday and Every Time I Die. Tickets available here.
