As is known throughout college dorm rooms, buffets across the world, and even supergroups of various genres, putting two or more separately good things together does not always provide a spacious walkway to success. Today, however, I am happy to say that this is not one of those times. Undoubtedly one of the few groups worldwide that can rightfully claim influence from both Dizzy Gillespie and Metallica, Chicago’s own Conflux have released a studio play-through for their song “The Keepers of the Light” via Gear Gods . The track comes from their upcoming debut EP The Inception, and the play-through video can be found here .
Conflux is the intricate brain-child of core members Chase Fraser (Continuum, ex Animosity, Decrepit Birth), Tommy McKinnon (Akurion/Neuraxis) and features contributions from a host of members including;
Mike DiSalvo (Akurion/ex-Cryptopsy)
Derek Engmann (Cattle Decapitation)
Elliot Desgagnes (Beneath The Massacre)
Eran Segal (ex-Aborted)
Matt Mcgachy (Cryptopsy)
Hugo Doyon Karout (Beyond Creation).
On the superordinate and collaborative nature of the band, Tommy McKinnon commented “From the start we wanted to include contributions from other members. Then we got the idea of making it a sort of club where all the members can contribute their original ideas, voices and tone, and individual expression, associations like this in Metal are somewhat rare, but they’re even more rare in Death Metal.”
Chase Fraser, echoing these comments, states “The Conflux collective is definitely an ambitious experiment and we couldn’t be happier with the results so far. We’re looking forward to sharing what we’ve been working on and can’t wait to record the full length later this year.”
Chase Bradley of Beneath the Massacre lends his mixing talents to The Inception along with Stefano Morabito, which is due out May 3rd. The pilot single, “Lucid Hallucinations” features Elliot Desgagnes, notching another contribution from Beneath the Massacre, was launched with the help of Metal Injection and can now be streamed here .
The collective’s live debut came via a March 30th show in Montreal, opening for GOROD and Beyond Creation. Featured with McKinnon and Fraser were as follows; Mike DiSalvo (Akurion/ex-Cryptopsy-vocals), Laurent Shankar (Basalte-vocals), Alexandre Hebert (Ages-bass), Hugo Doyon-Karout (Beyond Creation-bass), Paul Zinay (Crimson Shadows/Blackguard/Ages-vocals), and Elliot Desgagnes (Beneath The Massacre-vocals).
