Last Thursday night was the first night of the American Lines tour featuring Arizona pop rock band, The Maine and the Florida urbanites, Mayday Parade.
First things first, I have never seen Iron City this packed before. Wall to wall and front to back. Fans packed into the venue as the first band, Better Off took the stage.
Better Off is a rock band hailing from Nashville, Tennessee. Consequently, the band was only on the tour for the first night after certain accusations arose between members of the band.
After Better Off finished their set, everyone on stage hustled to get the stage set for the co-headliner’s, The Maine. After about a fifteen minute intermission, the stage lights were dimmed and the deafening scream spilled from the sea of people behind me. The energy that The Maine brings to the stage is pure heart, fun and a party on top. Shooting this show is by far one of my top favorites in the last 5 years of my photography career. In support of their new album American Candy, the band played a handful of songs from the new album mixed in with some older tunes and fan favorites.
During the set change and preparations being made for Mayday Parade, the crowd began to chant, almost endlessly, “MAYDAY! MAYDAY! MAYDAY!” The connection Mayday Parade has with their fans is truly inspiring and incredible.
Vocalist, Derek Sanders, wouldn’t even have to sing a single line from their song “Jamie All Over” because the crowd was going so nuts for them. At one point in the set I couldn’t hear anything at all from everyone screaming along so loudly. I had a fantastic night and feel honored to have been a part of the first night of The American Lines Tour. Check out the tour dates below and keep up with the bands online to see when they will be coming near you!
