The English metalcore band, Asking Alexandria, came through Rochester, NY at the Main Street Armory on Friday, March 4th.
The band was scheduled to perform at Water Street Music Hall, but after a surprising turn of events, the venue was shut down by the city. In a nerve wracking 24 hours, the promoter moved the show to The Main Street Armory. Asking Alexandria last played at the venue in March of 2014, with We Came as Romans, and Crown The Empire in the venue’s main hall. This show however, was in the basement; a long and skinny room with a low ceiling, that held about 800 people.
Asking Alexandria opened up with “I Won’t Give In” around 10:15 after While She Sleeps, and immediately the light show started. It was insane, for lack of a better word to see such a big band on such a small stage, and the crowd just got crazier every song. About ten security guards pushed against the barricades to keep the audience from pushing it over. The band, with constant energy, played some of their greatest hits, and new tracks from their upcoming album such as “The Black,” “The Breathless,” “The Final Episode,” “Not The American Average,” and “Undivided.”
Personally, of all the concerts I’ve photographed, this was among my favorites. To see a band that has played all over the world, and on the Vans Warped Tour main stage, in the small, intimate basement venue at the armory was so remarkable.
If you haven’t checked out this band yet, you should.
