August Burns Red in Birmingham,AL

Earlier this week I was able to witness the powerhouse of instrumentation of none other than the Pennsylvania metalcore outfit, August Burns Red. Before the show, the streets were lined with fans and metal enthusiasts alike, ready for a night of in your face guitars and a whirlwind of chest-pounding drums.

The show started off with openers Good Tiger, featuring ex-Tesseract vocalist Elliot Coleman, ex-The Safety Fire guitarists Derya Nagle and Joaquin Ardiles, ex-The Faceless drummer Alex Rüdinger and bassist Morgan Sinclair to create a rock supergroup to say the least. Fueled with the perfect amount of metal elements and melodic rock components.

Between the Buried and Me was up next. This was my first time experiencing this band live and I was completely blown away. I have never in my life been a part of something as insane as seeing these guitarists shred for over an hour. Covering a span of songs from the bands 16 year career, and closing their set with the ever fan favorite “Selkies : The Endless Obsession.”

After a short Sinatra filled intermission, August Burns Red was about to hit the stage. The lights were dimmed and the music playing out over the PA faded. The fans were going nuts waiting for what was about to happen. From the first note of the guitar and the circle pit infused drumming, the crowd was absolutely insane. Needless to say,the evening was packed with  intricate breakdowns and complex musicianship all around.  This was probably my 15th time seeing August Burns Red live and they have always brought something fun and new to the table for any fan of rock or metal music.
