Philadelphia natives, Grayscale, recently released their newest collection of songs via Anchor Eighty Four Records. The album, What We’re Missing, was released on February 12th and was produced/mastered by some huge hitting names including Gary Cioffi (Transit, Misser, A Will Away), mixed by Phil Dubnick (Transit) and mastered by Grammy Award winning engineer Brian Gardner (The Story So Far, Teagan & Sara, Kendrick Lamar). Making this an album listeners should definitely be tuning into and excited about.
The alternative punk group has garnished a great following after gathering a fresh and heavy start in punk-infused Philadelphia. The album includes an eclectic handful of tracks – 9 that infuse the alt/punk style familiar to those of us in Philly.
What We’re Missing Track List:
4. Say Something
5. Change (Alternate Version)
8. Irish Curtains
9. August Love
I think what struck me most about this album were the powerful lyrics. The writing in these songs is definitely the hook, line and sinker for listeners – illustrated by singer, Collin Walsh. He is supported and carried with delicate, intricate instrumentals performed by Derek Parker (Bass), Andrew Kyne (Guitar), Dallas Molster (Guitar/Vocals), and Nick Veno (Drums). However, the instrumentals can (and do) take on the loud and fast moving aspects shared by the alternative and punk genres respectfully.
“What We’re Missing is a collection of our thoughts, feelings, and stories from the past two years,” explains drummer Nick Veno. “It’s a very personal record for all of us. It’s brutally honest and revealing of certain happenings in our lives both happy and sad. Collin and Dallas are never afraid to call things as they see them, lyrically, and that kind of bluntness certainly didn’t change for this record. We held nothing back. We put everything that we had into these songs, leaving us completely unveiled and vulnerable, but in a way that was therapeutic. It allowed us to release the thoughts and feelings that were weighing us down, and tell each individual story from our perspective. We revealed our deepest emotion on this record, and I think people will take notice of that.”
