The four piece band, MOTHXR, signed with Washington Square this Thursday, September 10th, 2015. Originally from Brooklyn, NY, the band features actor/artist Penn Badgley, bassist/producer Jimmy Giannopoulos, guitarist Simon Oscroft, and keyboardist Darren Will.
The label and the band are both equally excited to begin a new journey with one another, while the Washington Square/Razor & Tie Co-Owner’s Cliff Chenfeld and Craig Balsam had this to say: “MOTHXR is an innovative, creative savvy group of musicians who have a unique style and true vision. We are very excited that they have chosen to work with Washington Square/Razor & Tie.”
In the last year, MOTHXR released a number of songs that the thrived on the internet. Their track “Easy,” was a top ten track on the Hype Machine and the song sat at #1 on the Billboard and Twitter Emerging Artist charts in May, while it now sits at #34.
Now, MOTHXR is kicking off a week long West Coast Tour beginning Monday, September 14th. Besides that, MOTHXR has sold out headline shows in New York, LA, London and Paris, and previously toured with San Cisco, Sir Sly, Har Mar Superstar and Streets of Laredo. The band recently played Montauk’s Surf Lodge Music Series as well as the first ever Full Moon Festival in Brooklyn.
MOTHXR is definitely going to be a band to watch in these upcoming months. Their music a mix between DIY pop punk and new wave R&B. The group feels spontaneous and new, which is good news for listeners because the band is also set to release their debut album in early 2016.
