On October 9th, 2015, Myke Terry will be releasing his debut EP Red Handed. Mixing pop and R&B sounds into a soulful combination reminiscent of The Weeknd, Miguel, and Frank Ocean, Terry’s EP could not of came at a more perfect time for his style of music. He wrote his music inspired by many of his favorite artists such as Billy Idol, Prince, and Michael Jackson. With music inspired by such soulful people and combining that with his new eclectic sense of style and signature voice, Terry is truly remarkable. A music video for the single “Red Handed” has already been released on Afropunk and fans can also pre-order his new single “Slide” on iTunes now.
From Richmond, Virginia originally, he immersed himself into the music scene after leaving Johnson and Wales University to join a heavy metal band, later known as Bury Your Dead. The band was widely successful and for years they toured and actually produced two full-length albums. Bury Your Dead and It’s Nothing Personal both charted on the Billboard 200. However during the years he was apart of this band he dealt with a lot of harsh racism and criticism of being the frontman of this metal band. He decided to leave the band and in 2013 Terry went off to LA began to launch his solo career, which is where he stands now. With much excitement towards the release of Red Handed, he explains “This work combines all my influences from soul to rock to 80’s pop.”
