Rocky Votolato reemerges from Seattle’s forge of crafted musicians with his new album Hospital Handshakes. After taking some time off from the road following a transition out of being plagued by self-doubt, second guesses, and almost retiring from music, Votolato picked back up the reigns and teamed up with producer Chris Walla, who was coincidentally going through his own transition following his departure from Death Cab For Cutie.
The themes are apparent in Hospital Handshakes, but the way Votolato has put this album together promises something more than just another sad song. Every plunge into self-interrogation, every look at a healing process, and every search for meaning that has been given a voice to is underlined with a cluster of positive energy promising there’s hope here.
Hospital Handshakes is an album unlike any we’ve heard from Votolato. Teaming up with a striking cast of Seattle musicians including his brother Cody Votolato (The Blood Brothers), this album reassures that perspective can always be found even in the darkest of places. So go ahead, sing along.
Pickup Hospital Handshakes via No Sleep Records on April 21st.
