On April 9th, Red Bull Record’s artist New Beat Fund announced they would be releasing their first full length album Sponge Fingerz on June 16th. Along with the announcement of the new record, they also confirmed a summer tour as well. Sponge Fingerz was produced by Matt Wallace (Faith No More, Maroon 5) and mixed by Tony Hoffer (Foster the People, Beck) at the legendary Sound City Studios. The band came together a few years back and features Jeff “Burnie Baker” Laliberte (guitar/vocals), Paul “Snapz” Laliberte (bass), Shelby “Button” Archer (guitar), and Michael “Silky” Johnson (drums), and toured across the country with artists like Blink 182, 3OH!3, and Aer. With the early release of their EP Coinz, they had a hit “Scare Me” which is to be featured on their upcoming album.
What can you expect from New Beat Fund? Take a mix of Southern Cali punk and add a little garage band to it and you have this weird colorful mash-up. Archer says “It’s not just punk rock, or indie, or weird psychedelic art. We were all exposed to different things growing up, so we didn’t choose to only go in one direction..”. A couple of tracks have already been released off of the new record including “Sunday Funday” and “It’s Cool”. Be sure to check out the album on June 16th, and New Beat Fund on Vans Warped Tour all summer.
